Welcome to the Illawarra Mining and Metallurgy Heritage Trail – a knowledge resource which seeks to recognise, honour and make more widely known the rich industrial history of the Illawarra region of New South Wales.  Because of its location and natural resources, the Illawarra has a long association with mining and metallurgy which continues to this day.  Development of this website has been undertaken by the Illawarra branch of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, with financial support from the sponsors shown below.

There are several ways you can use this website

  • If you’ve come to this site as the result of a specific reference, just go to the topic concerned from the menu at top, if you haven’t been taken to the topic automatically
  • If you’re interested in looking at the industrial history of the Illawarra in time order, look through the overall timeline provided, and when you want more information on a specific item there, go to the site menu for more detailed information on the particular topic
